How can I choose a quality fitness certification?

First of all, you need to research any certification programs along with the organization that backs up the training and certification process.  Is the program well-respected?  Does it stand up to legal challenges?  Does the examination process evaluate what it is supposed to evaluate, based on instruction received during the course?  Is the examination unbiased in it's content method of delivery?  And is the examination itself, along with the process, continually evaluated and maintained to meet current nationally recognized standards?  Are the certification renewal requirements adequate?

How does Professional Fitness Instructor Training meet these standards?

The PFIT training courses and certification examinations are well-respected and established.  Professional Fitness Instructor Training has been providing comprehensive training for fitness professionals for over fourteen years.  PFIT has been associated with the Sports Medicine Performance Institute (SMPIT), the Baylor Sports Medicine Institute (BSMI), and the American College of Integrative Medicine (ACIM).  Each association has entailed a progression towards a more national presence and recognition, which PFIT now provides for all professionals who receive an PFIT certification.

The quality and content of the PFIT training courses certification examinations, aside from necessary updates and improvements, remain constant.  The PFIT Personal Fitness Trainer course, for instance, prepares students to take several of the other nationally recognized certification examinations in addition to the PFIT, including the ACE, ACSM, NASM, NSCA, and AFAA certifications.  And all of the PFIT courses and certification examinations will stand up under legal challenge.

PFIT certification programs are steadily becoming some of the most respected certifications. The PFIT study materials and examination process have been developed and fine-tuned by leading experts (researchers and practitioners) in the fitness field.  Earning a PFIT certification demonstrates to clients and employers that you have acquired the knowledge necessary to provide a safe and effective exercise regimen, and that you are committed to upholding the most exacting professional standards in the fitness industry.  The theoretical (written) and practical evaluations are thorough yet unbiased assessments of the individuals understanding of principles and grasp of skills required to effectively yet safely train their clients.  Certification renewal guidelines require the trainer to participate in continuing education which advances their skills and knowledge and not simply repeat the same information they already learned in the PFIT course.

What fitness certifications does Professional Fitness Instructor Training Offer?

Join the growing number of fitness professionals who have given their fitness career the attention and effort it deserves by becoming PFIT certified.  PFIT offers several courses and certification exams, including:

  •  Certified Personal Fitness Trainer (PFIT CPFT)
  •  Certified Group Fitness Instructor (PFIT CGFI)
  •  Certified Rehabilitative Exercise Specialist (PFIT RES-C)
  •  Certified Exercise & Sports Nutrition Specialist (PFIT ESNS-C)

How do I earn a certification from Professional Fitness Instructor Training (PFIT)?

It is recommended that you enroll in a course offered by PFIT, or at minimum attend the review sessions scheduled towards the end of each PFIT course.  If you feel that your experience and past training qualify you to take the exam without participating in the course or review sessions, you may do so, as the courses and examination are separate entities and it is not mandatory to take the exam after the course, or to take the course prior to the exam.  The PFIT certification examinations are offered at the end of each PFIT course.

Can you guarantee that I will pass the PFIT examination?

Unfortunately, Professional Fitness Instructor Training can not guarantee that you will pass the test.  While comprehension of the materials associated with the PFIT training courses, along with the review sessions for the PFIT examination, should most certainly increase your ability to pass the certification exam, there can be no guarantee of a successful performance on the exam.  The pass / failure ratios on the PFIT examinations fall within the accepted standards as established for other nationally recognized certification examinations.

We do guarantee, however, that if you should not pass the theoretical (written) section, practical demonstration of skills) section, or both sections of the exam, you can retake the exam.  The fee is currently $55.00 to retake either the written or practical (the score on the section you did pass will be carried over and combined with the results of the retake), or $95.00 to retake the entire exam.  There is currently not a limit on the number of times you can retake the exam.  Included as part of the exam retake fee are the review sessions offered at the end of the course.  Simply contact PFIT to inform them that you wish to retake the exam, remit the fee to retake the exam, and show up with your manual at the review sessions.

The PFIT staff is available to you before, during, and after the courses to answer any questions you may.  This includes going over your exam results once you have received notification by mail, so that areas requiring improvement are identified and you can perform better during the next exam.
