PFIT Certification Renewal Guidelines 

PFIT values your professionalism to the fitness industry. Maintaining your PFIT certification (s) demonstrates commitment and responsibility. Each PFIT certification is current for 2 years.  The following guidelines will assist you toward maintaining your PFIT certified status. It is the certified individual’s responsibility to maintain records of all workshops, seminars, and correspondence courses and apply for renewal. The PFIT CEC Log Sheet is and Certification Renewal Guidelines are provided for your assistance. 

PFIT takes steps to insure the privacy and security of all customer transactions.  The PFIT web site is secure web site, employing a 256-bit SSL (Secure Socket Layer) certificate to ensure the security of all transactions and transmissions.

PFIT CPFT or PFIT CGFI or PFIT RES-C or
PFIT ESNS-C or PFIT AHPS Renewal

The following information must be submitted for the renewal of
each PFIT Certification before the expiration date:
 

Twenty (20) contact hours or continuing education credits (CEC's) obtained during two year period (Subject to change).  This applies to all new certifications received after January 1, 2006, as well as any renewals after this same date.

  • Example: Certified 01/30/08 - Expiration date is 01/31/10 (last day of the month)

  • Greater than 20 CEC’s will not be transferred to the next two-year cycle.

  • Required CEC's should be obtained through accredited fitness organization  (PFIT, ACE, ACSM, NSCA, NASM, etc.)

  • CEC courses must directly apply to the certification to be renewed

  • Many PFIT CEC courses can be applied to multiple PFIT certifications

  

Log Sheet or List of Courses

  • Make copies of the certificates, attach outlines and copies, and list them on the PFIT Continuing Education Log Sheet provided (copies are available at www.pfit.org or by request)

  • If the log sheet is not available, list the courses, date, number of CEC’s and organization for each course submitted.

 

Both current CPR and Basic First Aid and AEDare required to be submitted with the 20 CEC's.

  • If mailing information, please send in copies. Do not send originals.

  • Your name along with the Expiration Date need to appear on the copies of the cards/certificates

 

Renewal Fees: (required for each certification)

  • $55.00 if paid with application and prior to your certification expiration date

  • $75.00 if paid within 6 months past certification your expiration date

  • $90.00 if paid after 6 months and before 1 year of the certification exam expiration date 

 

Certifications and certification renewals are valid for two years from issuance or renewal.

If renewals are late, the expiration date is calculated from the original renewal expiration date.

Certifications expired for (1) year and over are not eligible for renewal. Re-test required


How to Renew your PFIT Certification 

  • Submit the following by mail to:

    Include the following documents:

    • Letter requesting renewal for each certification.  Include name, address, phone, email

    • Log Sheet listing your CECs (minimum 20)

    • Copies of CEC certificates, Certifications, transcripts that apply to CECs being petitioned

    • Proof of current CPR and First Aid

    • Renewal fee by check or money order payable to "PFIT"
       

  • Renew online using our Online Recertification Form.   Please note that online renewals are subject to random audit, and proof of CECs and CPR/First Aid may be requested for presentation to PFIT Certification Services.


What CEC’s does PFIT Accept?

  •  Additional Certifications - Become certified by one of the following organizations (one time approval only):
    ACE-CPT .3 CEC, ACSM-HFI .4 CEC, NSCA-CPT .4 CEC, NSCA-CSCS .6 CEC, NASM-CPT  3  CEC
    Workshops and Study time do not reward credits as these are primary certifications.

  •  On-line correspondence courses and are accepted upon review.  Please enclose outline and certificate of course. Only 60 % of online / correspondence cec’s will be accepted toward the 15 required cec’s, or  up to 9 contact credits.  The other remaining CEC’s should come from hands on courses, and practical skills workshops, or additional certifications as listed above. 

  • Fitness Conventions such as IDEA and IHRSA are accepted. Send in list of sessions, date, amount of credits received at the end of the convention, with organization, date, and your name on the listing.

  • University/College Courses need to have direct application to fitness, sports, fitness related rehab, fitness  related injury prevention, biomechanics, programming, choreography, strength training, and sports psychology. Transcripts must be attached. Credit will be awarded only once per renewal period. One college credit equals one CEC.

  • Other Courses/Seminars – Individual petition to PFIT for approval when you are renewing.

    • Submit course (1) outline, (2) instructor’s profile, (3) organization, (4) date, and (5) number of CEC’s awarded.

    • These will be reviewed for acceptance or rejection

    • There is no charge to petition a course by PFIT

    •  Send in course outline when renewing, along with your renewal fee and CPR/First Aid


Replacement or Duplicate Certificates

  • Fee for replacement or duplicate certificate: $15.00 each

  • Allow 10 working days for certificate processing 


PFIT Certified - Designation

Use of the PFIT name - Please read carefully

  • PFIT Certified Professionals are restricted to the use of the following designations:

    • PFIT Certified Personal Fitness Trainer should use PFIT CPFT

    • PFIT Certified Group Fitness Instructor should use PFIT CGFI

    • PFIT Rehabilitative Exercise Specialist - Certified should use PFIT RES-C

    • PFIT Advanced Human Performance Specialist should use PFIT AHPS

    • PFIT Exercise & Sports Nutrition Specialist - Certified should use PFIT ESNS-C (formerly Applied Nutrition Specialist - Certified, ANS-C)
       

  • PFIT (Professional Fitness Instructor Training) is indication of a certification endorsement and does not imply or infer employment with PFIT.

  • If you have a question about usage of the PFIT name or logo, please contact our office. PFIT has the right to require an immediate cease action for any incorrect or improper usage of the PFIT name. Please make sure of appropriate usage before printing any marketing materials.

  • Use of the PFIT logo on your business card or other promotional material is not allowed.

  • No other use of designations or the PFIT name is permitted without written consent 


PFIT Mailing List - Sorry, Not for Sale

  • Upon becoming certified as an PFIT CPFT, PFIT CGFI, PFIT RES-C, or PFIT ESNS-C you will be placed on the mailing list to notify you of workshops and events.

  • If you wish not to be on the list, please notify Professional Fitness Instructor Training

  • Please notify us of any changes in name, address and phone numbers.

  • The mailing list is not for sale.
